“Brilliantly mixing the open structures of the most forward-thinking modern jazz with elements drawn from contemporary classical music, this is an extraordinary debut album” – All About Jazz
About
InFormal Setting, the debut album of pianist and composer Federico Nuti, was released by Hora Records on September 2022. Warmly received by the press, Nuti reached 2nd place in Italy’s most prestigious critics’ poll ‘Top Jazz’ in the “Best New Talent” category, thanks in part to a series of impressive shows throughout Italy’s club circuit. In 2024 the group performed at Jazzahead! Festival in Bremen for the Italian Jazz Clubnight and later won the New Jazz Generation 2025 call by the I-Jazz association, which will support the band through several important concerts in Italy and abroad during 2025.
In addition to the leader on piano, the band includes four of the most distinctive voices of Italy’s emerging generation: Jacopo Fagioli on trumpet, Francesco Panconesi on tenor saxophone, Amedeo Verniani on double-bass and Mattia Galeotti on drums: what might seem like a classic trumpet-tenor-piano-bass-drums quintet is brought to the cutting edge thanks to the leader’s exceptional compositional vision, and by the outstanding creative personalities of the five young musicians.

Pianist and composer Federico Nuti founded the band with the idea of exploring the intricacies and subtleties to be found where improvisational freedom and formal structure intersect.
Indeed, this music is deeply informed by avant-garde movements in European and North American music, placing Nuti at the center of a vital current of contemporary jazz currently developing in Italy.
